Trojka Bergen, Norway
Trojka, hailing from the blooming prog rock scene of Bergen, Norway, has been playing together for over a decade. The lineup (keys/synth, bass & drums) point towards ELP, but they're equally inspired by Yes, Rush and King Crimson, as well as The Beatles, Radiohead and modern jazz, fusion and pop. Thanks to the nice-endof-year-offer I came to fill this gap in my private worm collection (a, pardon me, worm hole, so to speak :-)) Wonderful reminiscence to many good things past (Canterbury, 70s prog, folk rock) with a good sense of humour and great ideas (both in the songwriting & in the arrangements) .

The new live EP by Ryan W. Stevenson's project reminded me, that this debut album must have been gone down the wishlist... If instrumental Canterbury stuff is your thing, this should be a no-brainer. Firmly rooted in the past (late 60s, 70s), nevertheless with a fresh sound. Guests incude The Tangent's Andy Tillison and Soft Machine's Theo Travis.

An incredible album that draws from classic prog rock scenes such as Canterbury and RIO and updates them, creating a greater whole that sounds brilliant. Intricate song structures, rich textures, time signature changes and a quirky, British sense of humour popping up now and then from the lyrics or from the music itself. Sheer and lush prog rock awesomeness.

Mysterious, yet nostalgic, Isolubilia is truly an ode to the romance found in the pursuit of a mystery. Musically rich in turbulence and serenity, majesty and humbleness, this album made me feel both lonely, yet understood as an isolated individual. Perhaps we're all fellow romantics, looking up at the same night sky, trying to wring our own meaning out of the stars. I hope that pursuit never ends.
