woe_bonnet Like wearing nothing but a pair of Moon Boots™ to a half-speed snowball fight with Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes. This is significantly delightful music. Favorite track: Trojka.

muschiosauro Laid-back, heart-warming, pop-infused contemporary take on classic Canterbury prog with pinches of Gentle Giant in all the right places. Favorite track: Drømmeløs.

Carsten Pieper Well, by reading a rave review of their new album, I was reminded, that this went down the wishlist... ;-)

Oh, sweet sunny north, it's incredible how many exciting bands emerge from there. And it's Norway, again, to be precise.
I agree with Sven B. Schreiber happily assigning the Canterbury tag. For sure, I hear more of Caravan et al. in this fine album than ELP/Rush/Yes.... Favorite track: Drømmeløs.

Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) I've got a couple of stunning albums from Norway in my collection (Owane, Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson, Suburban Savages), and this one fits in quite nicely. Those three guys from Bergen call it "progressive pop" - I would dare to tag it near-clean "Canterbury"... certainly much cleaner than most of the contemporary bands who try to (ab)use this premium history-charged term for themselves. By the way - great electra piano sound throughout the album! Favorite track: Drømmeløs.

Spacehog Another highlight from Apollon Records, a Bergen band again.

Look at the cover, it's gorgeous, isn't it?
The influences are obviously coming from the Canterbury scene and at times I find myself thinking of Koralrevens Klagesang by Panzerpappa. I love their sound.

about

"I speilvendthet" is Trojka's first LP, released by Tik (vinyl/digitally) & Apollon Records (CD), and showcases both the trio's instrumental skills and songwriting versatility. Their progressive pop (as they label their music) takes many shapes on this record: the classic, energetic 70's prog rock sound based on drums, bass and keys/synths (think ELP, Rush, Yes) with clear influences from more contemporary jazz, fusion, pop and electronica, and enriched with additional instruments such as saxophone, flute, strings, vibraphone and acoustic guitar. The result is 42 minutes of adventurous, groovy, dreamy and mind-boggling music with great variety and depth, matched by the Norwegian lyrics that span from the profound to the whimsical!

about

Trojka Bergen, Norway

Trojka, hailing from the blooming prog rock scene of Bergen, Norway, has been playing together for over a decade. The lineup (keys/synth, bass & drums) point towards ELP, but they're equally inspired by Yes, Rush and King Crimson, as well as The Beatles, Radiohead and modern jazz, fusion and pop. The result is Trojka's energetic, catchy "progressive pop", with lyrics in their native Norwegian! ... more
